7TH MEETING OF THE STANDING COMMITTEE OF RECOWA
From 12th to 15th February, 2019, in Abidjan, Ivory Coast, the 7th Meeting held of the Standing Committee of RECOWA (Reunion of Episcopal Conferences of West Africa).
This was to prepare for the 3rd Plenary Assembly which will take place from 13th to 20th May, 2019, in Ouagadougou (Burkina Faso). The theme of the plenary shall be: “The New Evangelization and the Promotion of Integral Human Development in the Church Family of God in West Africa”.
The choice of this theme is to inspire and strengthen the Church family of God in West Africa for a credible witness through the promotion of unity and solidarity, justice and peace among our people.
During the meeting we expressed concerns about happenings in our region such as the terrorist attacks and different types of violence.
The Archbishops and Bishops from other countries joined the Nigerian Bishops at Mass to pray for peaceful presidential and national assembly elections in Nigeria holding on February 16th and they even generously accepted that we conclude the Standing Committee meeting earlier in order that the Nigerian delegation could return to Nigeria to participate in the elections.
